Introduction

The Nano 4 is an allround CrossFit shoe by Reebok, and very popular with CrossFit athletes. The Nano 4.0 succeeds the Nano 3.0, and has been for sale since 2014. The shoe is available in over 10 different color combinations.

Use

The Nanos are designed and intended to be used for CrossFit. There is no real heel drop in this shoe; Reebok claims it’s only 4mm, and no metatarsal strap. The shoe is flexibal, and very grippy. This makes it a very good shoe for deadlifts, and all kinds of dynamic exercises. Because there’s no heel wedge, and no metatarsal strap, this shoe isn’t great for WOD’s that include weightlifting exercises, or weightlifting itself (snatch and clean & jerk).

Shoe design / construction

The body of the shoe is made from mesh, with the so-called ‘duracage’ on top of that. The duracage is made from durable synthetic material, in a diamond pattern cage. The mesh makes the shoe breathable, while the durage provides stability. Another interesting feature is the ‘RopePro’; extra grip on the inside of the shoe that helps with rope climbing. Apart from the pattern, the sole is flat, and provides good grip. The sole features a groove over the full width, allowing for the toebox to move independently from the rest of the shoe. The shoe uses wide, flat laces. For a shoe that’s used in dynamic exercises, this is the best type of lace, as it’s harder to get undone than round laces.

The Nano 4 weighs about 280 grams.

Sizing/Fit

The Crossfit Nano 4.0 is almost true size. For most, they fit true to size, some say it fits a little small. If you want to be sure of the right size, check out Reebok’s sizing table. If you’re right in between two different sizes, pick half a size up. The width of the shoe is average.

Conclusion; light, flexible and comfortable CrossFit Shoe

These shoes are the best choice for CrossFit WOD’s with a lot of dynamic exercises. For WOD’s with a lot of weightlifting exercises, the Reebok CrossFit Lifter 2.0 is a better choice, because of the bigger effective heel height, and better stability.
